The Private Jessica Lynch

By: Debbie Ingold  11-16-03

To Jessica Lynch, the private who turned the world around. You showed the world what a true soldier is. You didn’t make the soldier, the soldier made you and Jessica that is something to be proud of. It took much strength and will to go through what you went through. When most of us would have given up you kept going.

We know your hard times are a head of you as you live knowing your comrades did all they could, fighting with everything they had but still did not come home. They did however go home. You see Jessica it is not what you take with you when you go but what you leave behind when you go. They carved out their distinctive lives, and destinies in their stones, for some reason way before you, but you see, now Jessica you started carving your distinctive life and destiny when you fought with everything you had just to stay a live, now it is up to you to finish the carving. How you will do that we do not know, and you may not have even had a chance to figure that out, but Jessica, somehow somewhere you will discover that and you will accomplish it, after all that is the soldier who made you.

Your special to the people here at home for during a time when we have lost all of our super heroes, all of a sudden this story of a small petite private with the strength of 100 more, came home. Do you deserve the credit you have received, you bet you do! You gave so much so much more then you will ever know. You gave every American HOPE in a time when many do not know what that means anymore.

We need to share some of the things that we have learned in life sometimes, in order to understand where we are going. I know that for every soldier that is lost in time of war, there is a reason. The stories that are told about these fallen soldiers generally are of bravery and strength and fight. Just like your fellow soldiers and comrades who fought so hard to the very end. Yet all the time they kept you as safe as possible buried in the middle of them knowing that you were unable to defend yourself.

They passed on to you the strength and courage to hang on. They also brought out the soldier that has made you who you are that could impress the inocence of a man who put his life on the line to save you. You see Jessica, you have touched many lives and now it is time for you to heal and figure out what God has for you in the years to come. Yes, Jessica it will be hard but I know that the Soldier who has made you who you are, will somehow rise above all of this to be the best soldier she can be. You will share with others, you will help to bring the soldiers out in others, you might even touch a weak person and give them the strength they need to survive.

Do I feel it was right for the press to take this as far as they have? No, not at all, but at a time when America has lost all of their Super Heroes, they only assisted you in bringing us the Hope we need. I do not agree with all that the press does especially in this day of reality TV but sometimes I do feel they only mean the best. Do you deserve all this publicity, probably not, but believe me it is in the plan and God’s will for you as you figure out how you are to carve your destiny into your rock.

Hang in there sweetie, as someday you will figure this all out and you will find a way to use your soldier strengths and pain to touch others. You have already touched millions, but now you need to take time to heal and then you will find a way to put all of this experience to work for the betterment of yourself, your friends, and those around you. I do not know you personally but I do know that God has some great plans for you or He would not have allowed you to come home.

Your scars are deep and your pain will carry on, but Jessica take refuge in knowing that we all love you, not for what you did, but for the soldier who made you who you are
